概要 This paper examines the representations of animals, especially dogs, in Jesmyn Ward’s two novels, Salvage the Bones (2011) and Sing, Unburied, Sing (2017). The paper investigates how the human-animal relationship depicted in Ward’s novels encompass the complex history of biopolitics, race violence, and coerced labor in the South. In so doing, the paper will show how Ward's represenations of animals becomes an imaginary intervention to the history and comtemplates less coercive, more caring human-animal interaction.
