概要	This paper compares direct speech presentation in present-tense fiction of the 21st-century with that in 20th-century past-tense fiction and identifies its stylistic features. By using two corpora (one of present-tense narratives and the other of past-tense narratives), and a sub-corpus of direct speech in each corpus, this study shows that speech presentation in present-tense narrative and that in past-tense narrative are qualitatively different.
